Showthemes basic install and update instructions

How to install your theme

  1. Create a clean WordPress install.
  2. Install (upload) the theme. Go to Appearance > Themes > Upload Theme

  3. Install the classic editor https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/.
  4. Change the settings of your “Classic editor”. Default editor for all users: Classic Editor.
  5. Set the permalinks to “Post name”  (https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks).
  6. Import our test data > Theme name > Tools > Import.
  7. Import data from Excel files, you can find those files in your theme folder /misc (Speaker sumo does not have that option).
  8. Create a top menu with a few links and select “Display location” > Navigation Menu.
  9. Set your home page and blog on Settings > Reading Settings (Omit this step if you are using Vertoh, Januas, Fudge, Tyler).
    • Homepage: home
    • Post page: News
  10. Optional: Install your child theme (included in your theme files /misc).
  11. Test your site (Your homepage will look a little bit busy, you can edit that and adapt it to your taste).

How to update your theme

  1. Create a full website backup: This step is crucial; it will allow you to recover the site in case the update couldn’t be completed.
  2. Save any custom CSS you have stored under Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS.
    Note: If your custom CSS is inside a child theme, it shouldn’t be a problem.
  3. Choose a different WordPress standard theme in the meantime. You can choose one of the WordPress standard themes.

  4. Delete your parent theme on the bottom right corner.

  5. Download the last version of your theme from your account member area.
  6. Install your parent theme again; the version number should change; you are free to check our each theme changelog.
  7. Install the classic editor in case that you don’t have that plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/.
  8. Change the settings of your “Classic editor” >> Default editor for all users: Classic Editor.
  9. Activate your parent or child theme (that will depend on your initial setup).
